Vietnamese investments overseas record surge in Q1

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s investments abroad, including newly and additionally-registered capital during the first quarter of the year, reached US$211.45 million, or 37% of the figure recorded the same period in 2021.

Throughout the reviewed period a total of US$180.2 million was invested across 24 new projects, representing an annual rise of 28.5%.

A further US$31.23 million was added to three existing projects, equal to 7.2% from last year’s corresponding period.

Capital outflows mainly focused on eight industries, with the processing and manufacturing sector taking the lead, followed by the mining industry, finance- banking and wholesale & retail.

Most notably, Laos was the largest among 12 countries and territories that received Vietnamese investment. Data from the General Statistics Office show Laos attracted US$64.33 million in investment capital from Vietnam, making up 30.4% of the country’s overall investment abroad.

It was followed by the US, Canada, Singapore and Indonesia that attracted US$34.5 million, 34 million, 29.9 million and 22.7 million respectively.

As of March 20, Vietnam had 1,539 valid overseas investment projects with total capital exceeding US$21.43 billion.
