VOV.VN - Australia defeated Vietnam 4-0 on home turf on January 27, jeopardizing the visitors’ hope of obtaining their first point at the ongoing third qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Australian players scored two goals in the first half and another two goals in the second half.
At the press conference after the match, coach Park Hang-seo could not hide his sadness, saying the whole team tried their best against physically superior opponents.
He also explained why he had chosen some young players with little experience of international matches in the line-up, affirming this is a necessary step for young players.
“Regrettably Vietnam could not score even though they played well in the second half,” said the Korean manager.
The defeat means Vietnam remain at the bottom of Group B after all seven losing matches in a row. Meanwhile, Australia have 14 points and continue to raise hopes of competing for the two leading positions with Japan and Saudi Arabia.
