Hungarian pianist Janos Balazs debuts in Hanoi

Hungarian pianist Janos Balazs will debut to perform a repertoire including classical and modern pieces at the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM)’s Great Hall on December 4. 

Hungarian pianist János Balázs will perform in Vietnam for the first time on December 4.

Balazs is one of the most successful and acclaimed pianist in classical music and he is known for his performances in the world’s most prestigious concert venues and philharmonic orchestras such as the Brussels Philharmonic, the Dortmund Philharmonic and the Nagoya Symphonic Orchestra.  

In the first performanc in Vietnam, the pianist will play pieces by Bach-Busoni; Chopin; Liszt; Brahms-Cziffra and Strauss-Cziffra.

"Balazs is one of the few artists equally loved by audiences, fellow professionals, and music critics and is one of the few classical musicians who is willing and who is able to improvise at live concert," said Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Ory Csaba.

Balazs is founder of the Gyorgy Cziffra Festival. The pianist Cziffra is Balazs’s idol and is considered to be one of the greatest pianists of all time. The festival has since blossomed into one of the most prestigious classical music events in Hungary.

Balazs was a member of the jury of the Virtuosos television show which is a Hungarian classical music-based television talent show where the Vietnamese opera student Ninh Duc Hoang Long won the first prize in his age range category.

After the concert, the pianist will hold a master class at the Piano Department at the VNAM.

The concert is held as one of a wide range cultural activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Hungary in 2020.
