Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has asked Finland to continue supporting small-scale clean energy development projects for households via joint ventures or the use of official development assistance funds.

During a reception in Hanoi on October 15 for Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Tapani Lintila, Dam spoke highly of the potential for Vietnam-Finland cooperation in green economic development, adoption of clean technology in water and waste treatment, and development of renewable energy such as wind and solar power, and biomass.

Thanks to the support of the Vietnam-Finland Innovation Partnership Programme, cooperation programmes in the above fields have been carried out effectively, Dam said.

Both sides need to increase the exchange of visits by economic and trade delegations to enhance mutual understanding, seek business opportunities, build start-up and innovation centres, promote collaboration in digital economy and e-commerce, he said, adding that Vietnamese and Finnish firms should prepare to fully tap the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) which is to be adopted in the near future.

Lintila, for his part, expressed his delight at visiting Vietnam on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

He said the Finnish Government wants to establish new partnerships between enterprises and people of the two nations, and is interested in developing cooperative ties in the fields of information technology, smart urban development, energy, clean technology, education, and startup ecosystem.

During the visit, the Finnish minister held working sessions with leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Hanoi city to discuss potential cooperation areas such as waste treatment, renewable energy, and information technology.
