Chile seeks stronger co-operation with Vietnamese localities

VOV.VN - The Chilean Government is willing to support the acceleration of international co-operation between its localities, including the Los Rios region, and Vietnamese partners, according to officials of the Los Rios region.

Los Rios Governor Luis Cuvertino and local administration representative Paola Peña Marin, made the statement at a meeting between representatives of the Los Rios region and Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Pham Truong Giang during the diplomat’s recent working visit to the area.

They expressed their impression at Vietnamese socio-economic development achievements over recent years, hoping the Vietnamese side would share its experience across multiple fields, especially in agriculture.

Governor Cuvertino also emphasised the need for strengthening co-operation between the Los Rios region and Vietnamese localities in the fields of commerce, tourism, and education in the future.

In response, Ambassador Giang spoke highly of the time-honoured co-operative relations between the two countries over the past 51 years, noting that the bilateral trade turnover has been successfully maintained at US$1.2 - 1.3 billion annually.

This represents the highest level among ASEAN member states, despite the complicated nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, he stressed.

The Vietnamese diplomat went on to voice his support for several initiatives put forward by the Governor, as well as those made by representatives of the local administration, adding that the Vietnamese Embassy is ready to act as a bridge between Vietnamese and Chilean localities, including the Los Rios region.

During their stay, Ambassador Giang and other officials of the Vietnamese Embassy visited Apicoop that specializes in producing bee honey and fruits for export to Europe, to discuss the company’s tentative plans to develop projects in Vietnam.

They also attended the Cultural Fair in Lago Ranco city in the Los Rios region to introduce traditional Vietnamese handicraft products and cuisine to the Chilean people.
