Da Nang, Lao province eye broader co-operation

VOV.VN - Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, vice secretary of the Party Committee of the central city of Da Nang, hosted a reception on December 28 for Phoxay Xayasone, secretary of the Party Committee and Governor of the Laotian province of Salavan.

During the course of the meeting, Triet said Da Nang has co-ordinated with five southcentral Laotian provinces, including Salavan, to implement many co-operation programmes such as upgrading schools, public works, and Vietnamese language training centres. This is along with granting scholarships to Laotian students seeking to study in Da Nang.

During the 2018 to 2022 period, the central Vietnamese city spent over VND115.9 billion, equal to US44.9 million, on supporting Laotian localities, including over VND22.2 billion specifically for Salavan, he said.

Da Nang has signed Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) with the southcentral Laotian provinces of Savannakhet, Champasak, Sekong, Salavan, and Attapeu as a means of boosting ties in the fields of education and training, trade, and investment for the 2023 to 2027 period, Triet said.

The official stressed that Da Nang will work closely alongside Laotian localities, thereby contributing to further promoting the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive co-operation between the two Parties, States, and citizens of the two countries.

He went on to suggest that the authority of Salavan continue working alongside Da Nang as a means of expanding trade and investment co-operation.

In response, Xayasone outlined his great appreciation for Da Nang’s support for and multifaceted co-operation with Salavan, saying that the signed MoUs and agreements serve as the foundation for promoting joint schemes between the two localities.

He also expressed his hope that on the basis of the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive partnership, the two localities will continue fostering links moving forward.

Da Nang has so far signed 30 agreements and MoUs with seven localities across Laos, including the capital of Vientiane, as well as Xaynhabuly, Savannakhet, Champasak, Sekong, Salavane, and Attapeu provinces. Collaboration between the Vietnamese locality and the southcentral localities of Laos have been effectively implemented, with a specific focus on projects aimed at supporting Laos across multiple fields.
