Dong Nai exports first batch of fresh bananas to China

Addressing the event, Nguyen Thi Hoang, vice chairwoman of the provincial administration, thanked local banana growers, relevant agencies, localities, and the business community for their great efforts in connecting and signing contracts with Chinese partners for the export of fresh bananas to China.

Hoang expressed her wish that local businesses will continue to accompany the locality in expanding production and striving to improve the overall quality of agricultural products in order to meet the stringent requirements set by international markets, especially demanding markets.

According to statistics, Vietnam has more than 154,000ha of land under banana cultivation, including more than 13,100ha in Dong Nai, making it the largest banana grower.

At present, the locality has an annual output of 450,000 tonnes with more than 80% mainly for export. Its fresh bananas have already made a presence in markets such as China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Malaysia.

Last year, Dong Nai exported over 400,000 tonnes of bananas and are expected to ship over 500,000 tonnes abroad this year.

Currently, Vietnam has 35 provinces with 286 growing area codes granted for export to the Chinese market. Dong Nai is the country’s leading province in terms of planting area codes granted by the Plant Protection Department.

Furthermore, the General Administration of Customs of China has also approved an additional 30 growing areas with nearly 40 packaging facilities to the province so far.
