Hanoi forum highlights green export promotion

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Export Promotion Forum 2023, running the theme of “green export promotion”, will be held on November 24 in Hanoi, according to information given by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

The event is expected to draw the participation of 300 experts, enterprises, and international organizations in Vietnam, with a view to creating a channel for dialogue and consultation with many stakeholders as part of efforts to shape and identify difficult problems, providing opportunities in green trade development, and proposing solutions and offering support policies specifically for green trade.

Furthermore, the occasion will offer the opportunity to share practical experience of pioneering businesses in green production and sustainable export development to meet global green consumption trends.

According to details given by the MoIT, green growth and circular economy are increasingly becoming a global trend, drastically practiced in the world's most developed economies as a solution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with the ultimate aim of creating a long-term carbon neutral economy.

The Ministry outlined that responsible business and environmental protection are mandatory requirements for firms producing exports, particularly as these factors affect the global value chain of the product. Therefore, the Ministry has been stepping up information in support of enterprises in meeting standards and criteria for sustainable development and green growth.

Experts acknowledged that the nation is one of the countries that made strong commitments to environment at the Climate Change Summit (COP26), including a commitment to pioneer in energy transformation, along with green and digital transformation.

Statistics compiled by the MoIT revealed that import-export represents a bright spot for the Vietnamese economy with a total import export turnover reaching US$732.5 billion in 2022.

In the first 10 months of the year, the country’s total import-export turnover achieved US$558 billion, a decrease of 9.6% on-year.

Along with a fall in market demand, many foreign markets such as the United States, the UK, and the EU have raised standards for imports in an attempt to accelerate green transition and emission neutralization.
