VOV Online hosts business forum on green economic development

VOV.VN - The Voice of Vietnam online paper (VOV Online) will host a business forum in Hanoi on April 17 to seek ways to accelerate green economic development in Vietnam.

The forum will provide an ideal venue for representatives from state management agencies, businesses, and experts to devise policies and put forth solutions specifically aimed at promoting green transformation of the Vietnamese economy.

The Prime Minister approved the national strategy on green growth during the 2021 - 2030 period with a vision towards 2050 in 2021.

The strategy has set the goal of “greening” economic sectors through effectively using natural resources and energy based on the application of digital technology in order to improve growth quality to monimise  any negative impact on the environment.

According to experts, there remain hurdles during the transition to green development in Vietnam as many environmental standards have been set in international trade, thus preventing Vietnamese goods gaining entry to demanding markets.

Vietnam has vowed to realise its commitment of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as announced by its Prime Minister at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2021.

It has also signed a deal on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) with the group of seven developed nations (G7) that have pledged US$15.5 billion for the country’s energy transition strategy.
