PM pledges conducive business climate for German firms in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Vietnam supports and creates the best possible conditions for foreign businesses, including those from Germany, to operate efficiently in the country, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assured Stephan Weil, Minister President of Germany’s Lower Saxony state.

Receiving the German guest in Hanoi on October 2, Chinh recalled the successful visit to Vietnam in later 2022 by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which he said helped provide fresh impetus to enhancing cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

Germany is Vietnam’s leading economic partner in the European Union and the relationship between the two countries still has much room and potential for development in many areas of cooperation, he said.

He highly appreciated cooperation potential between Vietnam and Lower Saxony in particular, saying two-way trade turnover reached EUR1.4 billion last year, making up one tenth of the total trade value between Vietnam and Germany.

The Prime Minister proposed that the two sides promote cooperation in politics - diplomacy, trade - investment, climate change response, vocational training, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, so as to bring benefits for the two peoples and increase mutual understanding.

He also proposed that Lower Saxony encourage its businesses to invest in Vietnam in the areas of high technology, digital transformation, green transformation, and climate change response, while supporting the German parliament to soon ratify the EU - Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and to lobby the European Commission to remove the yellow card on Vietnamese seafood.

Minister President Stephan Weil welcomed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s proposals, saying Lower Saxony wishes to increase visit exchanges and develop partnerships with ministries, localities and businesses of Vietnam.

He highly valued the positive contributions by approximately 10,000 Vietnamese expatriates in Germany to their host country, serving as a bridge between the two countries’ friendship and cooperation.

The head of the German state affirmed that he would make efforts to develop the Vietnam - Germany strategic partnership practically and effectively.

Minister President Stephan Weil is beginning a six-day working trip to Vietnam on October 1 to further develop economic relations between Lower Saxony and Vietnam, according to the State Chancellery. Economic and political discussions and business networking events will be high on the agenda.
