Slovenian Foreign Minister to visit Vietnam next week

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon will pay an official visit to Vietnam on May 22-23 at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Bui Thanh Son.

The visit takes place at a time when the traditional friendship and cooperative relations between Vietnam and Slovenia have developed positively in recent times.

The two countries have maintained high-level meetings, including the September 2021 meeting in New York between the then Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Slovenian President Borut Pahor, and the November 2022 meeting in Tunisia between Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and President Borut Pahor.

Most recently Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon on the sidelines of the UN conference on water in March 2023 in New York.

The two countries have also maintained close and effective cooperation at multilateral forums.

Bilateral economic and trade cooperation has yielded positive results. Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and global economic recession, two-way trade turnover last year hit US$573 million, up 15% compared to 2021.

Slovenia strongly supported Vietnam in the negotiation and signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

Currently, Slovenia has three investment projects capitalized at US$2.27 million in Vietnam, mainly specializing in the fields of electronics, machinery and pharmaceuticals.
