Vietnam pledges increased digital transformation in customs services
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation in customs services, while receiving Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, secretary general of the World Customs Organization (WCO), in Hanoi on October 10.
He appreciated the WCO selecting Vietnam to play host to the 2023 WCO Technology Conference and Exhibition in Hanoi on October 10-12, which he said has acknowledged the local customs industry’s integration efforts.
The 2023 WCO Technology Conference and Exhibition is of great significance as it coincides with National Digital Transformation Day in Vietnam, he stressed.
The Deputy PM told his guest that the government of Vietnam pays special attention to stepping up digital transformation in all industries, including customs, and to control and facilitate trade, the customs industry has no choice but to accelerate digital transformation.
Dr. Kunio Mikuriya for his part spoke highly of Vietnam’s strong trade growth, becoming a bright spot in the overall picture of the global trade. He commended Vietnam for IT development and application, including in the customs industry, and stressed that developing human resources capable of mastering advanced technology would be the key to ramping up digital transformation in the industry.
Both host and guest agreed that WCO 2023 would give customs leaders from countries around the world and more than 200 high-tech enterprises taking part in the event a great opportunity to exchange and share ideas, thereby promoting private-public partnerships cooperation and development.
