Hanoi launches extensive testing campaign as COVID-19 cases surge
VOV.VN - The capital city of Hanoi has begun carrying out an extensive testing campaign, starting on July 19, focusing on groups of people vulnerable to virus infection.
The decision was made by the municipal Department of Health follow the detection of new community cases in recent times. Data from the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control show 187 cases have been documented since July 5. July 19 alone saw more than 30 people testing positive for the virus.
During the week-long extensive testing campaign, Hanoi will take samples for COVID-19 testing for people showing such symptoms as a cough and a fever of unknown causes regardless of epidemiological factors.
In addition, the city will review, verify and test returnees from previous coronavirus hotspots of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang in the north and 19 southern provinces that have applied social distancing. These people will be subject to a full 14-day quarantine period at home from the date of return to Hanoi.
The city will also test all bus drivers, bus assistants, and bus ticket sellers in the city.
Hanoi has confirmed nearly 700 COVID-19 cases since the resurgence of the virus in the community in late April. Many clusters of infection have been recorded, and local authorities do not rule out the possibility that the fresh outbreak could spread to production workshops and business services in the coming days if prevention measures are not strictly implemented.
