Indian Lok Sabha Speaker’s visit shows higher political trust with Vietnam

VOV.VN - Speaker of the Indian Lok Sabha Om Birla is paying an official visit to Vietnam from April 19-21 at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

This is the first visit to Vietnam by Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla since he took office in 2019 as it serves as a contribution to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries as well as broader cooperation with the Vietnamese National Assembly.

Vietnam welcoming the Indian parliamentary leader’s visit affirms the consistent policy of the Party and State, which always gives high priority to reinforcing the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, and maintaining the exchange of high-level delegations between the two countries as well as between the two legislative bodies.

This is addition to carrying out cooperation activities between the two legislatures within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement signed between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Indian Lok Sabha in December 2016.

The visit is part of important foreign political activities between the two law-making bodies to celebrate the 50th anniversary of both nations’ diplomatic relations, while responding to the respectful and close sentiment of Om Birla when receiving National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue during his an official visit to India in 2021.

During the visit to Vietnam, Om Birla is set to hold a meeting with the Indian community in Vietnam.

The Indian Lok Sabh Speaker’s trip being made within four months following the Vietnamese top legislature’s visit to India demonstrates a high level of political trust and the close-knit relationship between Vietnam and India.

The visit will be a major highlight of the Vietnam - India comprehensive strategic partnership in the context that the two countries are celebrating 50 years of their diplomatic ties this year.
