PM Chinh chairs 15th Government first meeting

VOV.VN - The 15th Government for the 2021 to 2026 tenure convened its first meeting on August 11 under the chair of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The primary aim of the meeting is to outline the various tasks of carrying out 13th National Party Congress’s Resolution, along with the 15th National Assembly (NA)’s Resolution on socio-economic development for 2021 to 2025 period.

The session was held via video conference, featuring the participation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, alongside leaders from 63 cities and provinces nationwide.

As part of his opening speech, PM Chinh stated that the meeting is important as it seeks to reach agreements on a number of key issues related to the implementation with determination to build a Government of innovation, integrity, action, and efficiency, whilst also serving the people.

In his speech, the Government chief expressed his determination to build an innovative, transparent, action-oriented, and effective Government that serves the people.

PM Chinh stressed that the Government will not seek to achieve economic growth at the expense of social progress, justice, or the environment. It will strive to keep improving the material and spiritual lives of the people, whilst consistently and resolutely fighting acts of corruption and negative behaviours. Other actions include consolidating national defence-security; firmly safeguarding the country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; ensuring safety and order; along with enhancing external relations and global integration. Overall, it is hoped that these actions will help to improve the country’s role, position, and prestige in the international arena.

During the 2021 to 2025 period, the Government will target rapid and sustainable economic growth, which will be higher than the 2016 to 2020 average growth. By 2025, the nation is expected to be a modern-oriented industrialised nation, take synchronous measures to effectively cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, whilst ensuring the peace and well-being of the people in the spirit of “leaving no one behind”.

The Government has therefore set 23 targets for the 2021 to 2025 period, including about between 6.5% and 7% economic growth. The rate of manufacturing and processing sector will account for 25% of the gross domestic product (GDP), with the digital economy at around 20% and a State budget deficit of 3.7%. The rate of poor households under multidimensional poverty standards will be reduced by 1% and 1.5% annually, with 95% of the population being covered by health insurance, while the rate of forest coverage will be no lower than 42%.

Moving forward, the 15th-tenure Government will take on the task in the context that the world and the nation have plenty of opportunities and advantages. Simultaneously, the country will face an array of difficulties and challenges, especially the COVID-19 pandemic situation with the complicated developments relating to Delta variant, a factor which is threatening people's health and seriously affecting all socio-economic development, Chinh said.

The meeting heard various Government leaders briefing about the 13 groups of central tasks and solutions of the 15th Government in relating to implementing these resolutions.
It largely focused on discussing the most important and key issues relating to multiple fields over the next five years.
