PM Phuc greets US Secretary of Health and Human Services

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has appreciated the US government’s role in medical fields such as the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), influenza, and the global medical security program.

At a meeting with Thomas Price, US Secretary of Health and Human Services in Hanoi on August 24, the Vietnamese government leader said the Vietnamese government acknowledged medical cooperation between the two countries and the effective participation of the Embassy, the CDC, USAID, and non-governmental organizations. 

He said he wishes medical cooperation will be expanded to many areas such as HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and influenza prevention.

PM Phuc also hailed the efforts to develop medical cooperation between Vietnam and the US over the past two decades and expressed his satisfaction with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the two health ministries during the US official’s ongoing visit. 

He told his guest that the Vietnamese Government also greatly valued the efforts by relevant ministries and agencies to boost medical cooperation, particularly the US Embassy in Vietnam, the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the US Agency for International Development, and US non-governmental organisations.

The PM asked the Secretary to convey his regards to President Donald Trump and expressed his hope that during the presidential term, the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership as well as medical cooperation between the two nations would grow and flourish.

Secretary Price, for his part, conveyed President Donald Trump’s greetings to the PM and his appreciation for bilateral ties in various areas, including healthcare. 

The US applauded Vietnam’s achievements in ensuring global health as well as preventing and controlling epidemics diseases and HIV/AIDS and wishes to further augment ties with Vietnam in the field, he said.
