Vietnam attaches great importance to traditional friendship with Canada

VOV.VN - General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed Vietnam’s recognition of great importance to the time-honoured friendship with Canada at a November 8 reception in Hanoi for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

At the meeting with the Canadian PM who is on a visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders' Week, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted his visit to Vietnam as a significant landmark in the relationship between the two countries and briefed his host on the national development and renewal process and foreign policy of Vietnam.

The Party leader appreciated the bilateral cooperation over recent times and expressed his delight at the two countries' relations that have been upgraded to a comprehensive partnership on the occasion of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to Vietnam.

Trong hailed the outcome of the talks between Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Justin Trudeau and suggested both sides properly implement reached agreements and continue to augment bilateral relations in a substantial and effective manner for the benefit of the two countries’ people and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The Canadian PM, in turn, extended his sincere thanks to the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their warm welcome to his visit and expressed his strong impression on Vietnam's economic development achievements, especially in improving people’s living standards over the years.

Justin Trudeau highly appreciated Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance and multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations, saying that his nation always values ties with Vietnam and will continue to be a good friend of Vietnam in a fast changing world.

He applauded Vietnam's preparations and important contributions to the success of the APEC meeting and pledged to step up economic, scientific and technological, educational cooperation as well as coordination between the two countries in promoting multilateralism on the basis of respecting law in a highly globalized world.
