2018 Red Sunday blood donation launched in diverse localities

VOV.VN - Thongs of young volunteers from many different provinces nationwide donated their blood on January 14 at the 10th blood donation festival 2018 called “Red Sunday” to help treatment during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday. 

Thousands of units of blood have been collected during the events in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Dong Nai, and Yen Bai.

Nearly 700 blood units were donated by over 1,500 volunteers during the eighth “Red Sunday” 2018 at Hong Duc University in the central province of Thanh Hoa.

The same day, in Vinh city of neighbouring Nghe An province, the event was responded to by more than 1,000 officials and youth union members with  close to 1,000 blood units expected to be collected during the day.

One day earlier, hundreds of youth union members and young people in the southern province of Dong Nai donated in excess of 360 blood units. This was the second time the “Red Sunday” had been held in the locality.

Also on January 13, the “Red Sunday” attracted 500 students in the northern province of Yen Bai, collecting 160 blood units, which was transported to the National Institute for Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi for the needy.

In 2018, 33 localities have registered to respond to event with an estimated 35,000 blood units.

After nine years from 2008-2017, the “Red Sunday” collected more than 70,000 blood units.
