The Alliance of Ho Chi Minh City Associations of Literature and Arts, the municipal Writers’ Association, and the Culture-Art Publishing House jointly held a ceremony to introduce a book collection on Vietnamese seas and islands.

The “Sea and Island – 2019” has three poetry collections by Phung Hieu, Pham Phuong Lan, and Phan Trung Thanh; a short story by Huynh Man Chi; and a longer piece of prose by Vo Thu Huong.

At the introduction ceremony, President of the Alliance of HCM City Associations of Literature and Art Tran Long An said that in 2018, the alliance held an 11-day farm trip for local writers and artists to Ly Son island in Quang Ngai province and Phu Quy island in Binh Thuan province.

The trip aimed to increase the composition and popularization of literature and art works on Vietnam’s border, sea, and island areas.

During the trip, participants had exchanges with border guards and locals in the islands, during which they learnt about their strong spirit to protect the national seas and islands amongst the border guards and islanders.

Following the trip, a number of art works in different styles have been introduced to the public. In the area of literature, the alliance has chosen five books to form the “Sea and Island – 2019” collection, said An.

According to President of the HCM City Writers’ Association Tran Van Tuan, the introduction of the collection is part of the activities within the framework of the city’s Vietnam Poetry Day 2019, which will take place on February 19, or the 15th day of the first lunar month.

This year, the event is themed “heading to the nation’s borders”. It anticipates the participation of 25 poetry clubs and groups, aiming to honour the values of poetry; foster connections among poets and poetry lovers; introduce outstanding works that feature patriotism, national pride, citizen responsibilities in safeguarding borders, and that highlight the dynamic development of Ho Chi Minh City.
