Citi Vietnam promotes healthy lifestyle and environment protection

Citi Vietnam recently kicked off a cycling programme in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City themed “Bike with Citi - Enjoy Eco-Life”, aiming to promote a healthy lifestyle and help raise awareness of climate change, sustainable development and environmental protection among the bank’s employees and customers in Vietnam.

Accordingly, employees and customers of the bank are going to bike on the main streets of the two cities in the last weeks of 2015 using 200 blue bicycles adorned with Citi logo. Besides, 90 Citi bicycles will be awarded to the Citibank Visa debit card customers who have the highest number of transactions on the cards during selected months.

According to Natasha Ansell, Citi Vietnam’s country officer, during over 20 years of local presence, Citi has been proactively engaged in social philanthropy programs, including financial education projects, vocational training for young professionals and sponsorship of the Citi Microentrepreneurship Award, which recognises individuals and microfinance organisations that contribute to poverty alleviation.

“The Citi biking programme is another exciting opportunity to contribute to the local community. It is expected to raise awareness about eco-lifestyle and environmental protection among our staff and customers. Through blue bicycles adorned with Citi logo on the streets, we are sending a green message calling the community to support and participate in this important cause,” she said.

The cycling programme is part of the bank’s efforts in preserving environmental sustainability and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In 2015, over 800 volunteers of Citi Vietnam’s employees with spouses, children and friends joined the bank’s traditional Global Community Day, planting trees at Cuc Phuong National Park and cleaning the coastal lines in the southern province of Ba Ria–Vung Tau.

In addition, the bank kicked off a fitness challenge among its employees to test out their physical ability while encouraging them to participate in various fitness activities to keep fit and stay healthy.

Selection of investment projects based on environmental and social sustainability principles is one of Citi’s key business priorities. In Vietnam, Citi is also implementing its global principles to support and follow Directive No.03/CT-NHNN issued by the State Bank of Vietnam’s Governor early this year on promoting green credit, environmental and social risk management.

Citi was the first US financial institution to receive a branch license and the first US bank to open a full branch in Hanoi in 1994. As of now the bank has branches in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and a nationwide partnership network that covers all of Vietnam’s 64 provinces.

Citi offers a wide range of banking services in Vietnam including retail banking, corporate banking, investment banking, global transaction services, trade and treasury services, securities and fund services.
