COVID-19: 104 more cases recorded, 44 in HCM City alone

VOV.VN - Vietnam has confirmed an additional 104 coronavirus cases in four localities during the past six hours, including 44 cases in Ho Chi Minh City, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Most of the 103 locally transmitted cases were in quarantine and lockdown areas, said MoH in its 06.00pm COVID-19 update.

Of the total, 44 were recorded in Ho Chi Minh City, 41 in Bac Giang, 16 in Bac Ninh and two in Ha Tinh.

The outbreak in Ho Chi Minh City remains complicated though the chain of transmission at the Revival Ekklesia Mission Vietnam, a Christian congregation in Go Vap district has been kept in check.

Several cases have been sporadically detected in the community and the source of infection is still unknown.

In a latest move on June 12 the local administration scrambled to lock down the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases for epidemiological investigation and contact tracing after three of its employees tested positive on the same day.

The same day, the MoH announced an imported case returning to Vietnam through Moc Bai International Bordergate in Tay Ninh province. The 27-year-old man tested positive during his stay in the quarantine facility.

The newly detected cases have raised the 24-hour caseload in Vietnam to 261, including 125 in Bac Giang and 84 in HCM City.

The fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic which started in late April has attacked 39 cities and provinces across the country, with 7,039 cases confirmed.

Overall, Vietnam has logged a total of 10,241 cases, both locally transmitted and imported infections, since the SARS – CoV - 2 virus emerged in January 2020.

Fifty-eight COVID-19 deaths have been reported, including 23 cases during the latest outbreak.

More than 3,827 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.
