COVID-19: 792 new cases detected in Vietnam, tally rises to 27,400

VOV.VN - As many as 790 locally transmitted and two imported cases have been recorded in 19 cities and provinces in Vietnam during the past seven hours, raising national cumulative tally of infections to 27,400.

Most of the cases were documented in quarantine or lockdown areas, but healthcare workers are investigating 87 other cases of unknown sources of infection, the Ministry of Health said in its 01.00pm COVID-19 update.

More than 95% of the new cases were detected in southern Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City took the lead with 600 cases, followed by Tien Giang (75), Dong Thap (50), and Vinh Long (26).

Elsewhere, several cases were sporadically reported in Hung Yen, Phu Yen, Bac Giang, Tra Vinh, Bac Ninh, Ca Mau, Ninh Thuan, Ha TInh, Thanh  Hoa, Thai Binh, and Ha Nam.  

The MoH also announced that two imported cases have been documented during the past seven hours. The patients returned to Vietnam from Indonesia on June 20 and placed in quarantine in Tra Vinh.

The fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic which started in late April has attacked 55 cities and provinces across the country, with close to 24,000 cases confirmed.

Overall, Vietnam has logged a total of 27,400 cases, both locally transmitted and imported infections, since the SARS – CoV - 2 virus emerged in January 2020.

The number of COVID-19 deaths has risen to 110, including 75 cases during the latest outbreak.

Nearly 9,000 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.
