COVID-19: Nearly 4,000 cases recorded in Vietnam on May 7

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health announced 3,819 new coronavirus cases detected in Vietnam during the past 24 hours, a decrease of nearly 500 cases compared to the previous day.

All the new cases were diagnosed in the country, including 2,706 cases documented in the community, the Ministry of Health said in its coronavirus update at 06.pm on May 6.

Hanoi capital topped localities nationwide, registering 673 new cases, followed by Phu Tho (292), Vinh Phuc (203), Bac Ninh (174), and Tuyen Quang (163).

In the South, Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Phuoc detected 47 new cases each, followed by Ba Ria – Vung Tau (32), Binh Duong (18) and Tay Ninh (18).

Localities that saw the number of infections decrease most compared to the previous day were Phu Tho (-147), Lam Dong (-87), Vinh Phuc (-70).

Meanwhile, localities that saw the number of infections rise most compared to the previous day were Quang Binh (+48), Dak Nong (+35), Nghe An (+28).

On average 3,696 cases were recorded in Vietnam daily in the past seven days.

The same day, the Ministry of Health announced an additional 1,817 patients recovering from the disease, and six more deaths in two localities.

At present, 478 patients are relying on mechanical ventilation and two patients are receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a sophisticated form of therapy that is used to save the lives of patients in critical condition.

As of 6pm on May 7, Vietnam has confirmed more than 10.6 million infections, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, more than 9.3 million patients have recovered, and 43,055 patients have died of the virus and underlying illnesses.

More than 215 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered nationwide.
