COVID-19: Three more cases detected, virus attacks 13 localities

VOV.VN - Vietnam has confirmed three more coronavirus cases that were closely linked to Da Nang hotspot, while the virus has spread to 13 localities and provinces across the country.

The Ministry of Health has stepped up testing to early detect and quarantine suspect cases in an attempt to stamp out the fresh outbreak

Two cases were diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Quang Tri province and a case in Thanh Hoa province, the ministry said in its August 7 morning.

The 54-year-old female patient in Sam Son city of Thanh Hoa province had close contact with a COVID-19 patient returning from Da Nang city.

Her positive test results were confirmed by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology on August 6, and the patient was transferred to the Hanoi-based National Hospital of Tropical Diseases for monitoring and treatment.

A similar case was reported in Dong Ha district, Quang Tri province. The 28-year-old man had close contact with a COVID-19 patient and showed symptoms of a fever, a sore throat and fatigue. He tested positive for the virus on August 6.

The second case of Quang Tri is a 27-year-old woman in Vinh Linh district, who had taken care of one of her relatives at Da Nang hospital since July 17. She displayed virus symptoms on July 21 and tested positive on August 6.

The two cases are being quarantined at Quang Tri Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Hospital.

With three new cases, Vietnam has recorded a cumulative tally of 750 coronavirus infections, including 10 deaths.

After 99 days the epidemic had brought under control, the second wave of the virus erupted in late July, with the first infection confirmed in Da Nang city on July 25.

A total of 298 cases of community transmission have been reported and the virus has since spread to 12 other cities and provinces of the country’s all three regions, namely, Quang Nam, Dak Lak, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ngai, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Dong Nai, Ha Nam, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, and Quang Tri.
