COVID-19: Vietnam confirms 55 new cases, including 51 in HCM City

VOV.VN - Vietnam has logged an additional 55 coronavirus cases in three localities nationwide during the past 12 hours, with Ho Chi Minh City alone recording 51 cases, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The fresh outbreak in HCM City remains complicated as it is yet to show signs of waning despite bold measures.

Among the 51 new cases detected during the past 12 hours, 40 were those in close contact with COVID-19 patients, and a case was closely linked to the outbreak at the Revival Ekklesia Mission Vietnam, a Christian congregation in the locality.

However, the sources of infection of 10 cases are unknown. Notably, five patients of Saigon General Hospital tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on June 22 through patient screening.

Besides applying social distancing and carrying out extensive testing, the city has required all of its residents to make electronic health declarations, starting on June 24.

According to the MoH’s 06.00am COVID-19 update, two more cases each were recorded in Nghe An and Bac Giang provinces.

Vietnam has confirmed 10,495 cases, including 34 deaths, in 42 cities and provinces across the country since the resurgence of the virus in late April 2021.

The healthcare sector is speeding up vaccination, considering it an effective way to halt the spread of the virus.

More than 2.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered nationwide since the vaccination campaign was launched in March.
