COVID-19: Vietnam confirms three new community cases on Feb. 9 morning
VOV.VN - The National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control announced three locally-transmitted coronavirus infections in Dong Trieu district of Quang Ninh province, a coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam.
One of the three patients is an employee of Poyun Electronics Co. Ltd. in Chi Linh city of neighbouring Hai Duong province, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot.
The remaining two are a couple whose epidemiological investigation is underway.
The northern border province of Quang Ninh has so far recorded 50 infections since the virus recurred late last month.
But its neighbour, Hai Duong province, has registered the highest number of infections, 321, with Poyun Electronics Co. Ltd in Chi Linh City being the biggest hotspot.
Elsewhere, Ho Chi Minh City suddenly confirmed more than 20 cases on February 8, bringing its tally of infections to 31.
The virus has spread to 12 cities and countries across the country, attacking 467 people.
The Prime Minister convened an urgent meeting on February 8 to deal with the fresh outbreak as the lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, the most important festival in Vietnam, is three days away.
In other developments:
- HCM City and Hanoi have been green-lighted to impose social distancing on a number of selected places which are at high risk of virus infection
- HCM City has decided not to hold the opening ceremony of Nguyen Hue flower street festival, the largest of its kind in Vietnam in the buildup to the Lunar New Year holiday.
- HCM City has decided to suspend all non-essential services, including cultural, sporting and recreational activities, starting from 12.00hrs February 9.
