Dengue fever sweeps across Quang Nam province

Phu Ninh district is one of the localities hit with some of the highest number of dengue fever cases in the province. The disease has been present in the district since late August with nearly 100 cases, up more than 16% against the same period last year.

Leaders of the provincial Health Department said the number of dengue patients has increased sharply in many localities which previously recorded fewer cases because the relevant authorities and locals had paid less attention to the prevention of the fever.

Nguyen Van Van, vice director of the Quang Nam provincial Health Department, said the sector has directed the Preventive Medicine Centre to ensure sufficient preventive forces, chemicals, spraying machines and allocate money to localities to fight against the disease.

Despite declining cases of the fever being reported during the first 8 months of this year, the number of dengue patients has surged massively over the previous two months, said Mr Van.

The Department has also asked relevant agencies and medical centres to strengthen diagnosis and early treatment in order to minimize fatalities and accelerate preventive measures to attempt to control the spread of the disease.
