First German Christmas Market opens in Hanoi

VOV.VN - A 3-day German style Christmas Market is being held at Cua Bac Church in Hanoi from December 14-16, offering a variety of festive activities and attracting lots of visitors.

Crowds of people arrived at the market in anticipation of the opening ceremony at 6pm on December 14.

The market at the 100-year-old Cua Bac church has been organized by the Goethe Institute Vietnam in Hanoi for the first time.

 25 booths feature handmade crafts, food, and beverages.

Wilfried Eckstein, director of the Goethe Institute Vietnam hopes the market will help Vietnamese people and foreigners alike to experience Christmas in a new and unique style.

At the opening ceremony, an ensemble performed pieces of classical music and Christmas songs, drawing a large audience.

The food stalls are very popular with visitors. Pictured is a favourite dish of sausage and potato salad costing VND80,000.

There are also dining tables for visitors to taste German food.

Different German wines are available for purchase, visitors can buy them at a price of VND60,000-100,000.

The German beer booth is packed full of visitors eager to sample a festive brew.

Pictured are Anh Tu from Hanoi and his friend who sat for a drink of some German beer and shared memories of their time in Germany five years ago.

Foreign tourists are excited to enjoy the first ever German style Christmas Market in Hanoi.

Nguyen Thach Thao, a student from Hanoi University, said this was the first time she had experienced such a unique Christmas Market in Hanoi, and it was all very exciting.

Children are delighted to receive Christmas presents from their parents at the market.

The market takes place over 3 days (December 14-16) and entrance is free.
