First Mekong Delta province reports African swine fever
VOV.VN - Two outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) have been detected in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang, according to Tran Chi Hung, director of the provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development, on May 14.
Immediately after being notified of the detection of ASF, the provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development directed the animal health sector and other relevant agencies to cull the 68 pigs that were infected across the two households and take drastic measures to prevent the further spread of the epidemic.
A present, Hau Giang is home to more than 15,000 pig-farming households, mostly on a small scale with the total number of pigs reaching up to 160,000. With the outbreak, it is the first locality in the Mekong Delta region to report the ASF virus.
