Foreign scientists discuss healthy soil for sustainable development in Vietnam

VOV.VN - The 16th international conference on healthy soil for sustainable development opened in Thai Nguyen province, northern Vietnam, on March 26, drawing the participation of soil scientists and experts from Australia, Canada, China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

During the four-day event, delegates will look at soil health, soil ecology and biodiversity; soil fertility and crop nutrition; soil classification and mapping; soil and soil use assessment; highland soil; solid soil and wetland; soil degradation and treatment; recent advances in soil research; soil management; soil policy and education on soil management.

The conference aims to share invaluable experience and knowledge among soil scientists all over the world, especially in East and Southeast Asia countries; to promote active participation of member societies and networking; to contribute towards sustainable development in the region through harmonization of agriculture and environment.

Delegates will also make field trips to several localities throughout the country to learn more about soil use and management in Vietnam.

The conference is being held by the East and Southeast Asia Federation of Soil and Science Societies (ESAFS) in collaboration with the Vietnam Soil Science Association and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

This is the first time Vietnam has held the biennial event.
