High probability of largescale dengue fever outbreak

VOV.VN - The number of dengue fever cases is likely to increase with break outs on a large scale highly possible if drastic measures to prevent and control the epidemic are not swiftly put in place, according to the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health has also issued an urgent document regarding strengthening disease prevention and control measures to the Chairman of the People's Committees of provinces and cities nationwide.

The Ministry revealed that dengue fever has been increasing sharply in several provinces and cities nationwide at an earlier stage compared to last year due to favourable weather conditions.

The rise in the number of dengue cases is attributable to the ineffective dissemination of information, as well as a lack of chemicals and equipment for dengue fever prevention and control.

Furthermore, medical workers have not been competently trained, especially at private health facilities after pooling resources in order to combat the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years.

The Ministry of Health requested that localities nationwide take drastic dengue prevention and control measures amid rising case numbers. Other steps include deploying campaigns on environmental sanitation, along with spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes at outbreak sites and at-risk areas.
