Khanh Hoa strengthens Zika virus monitoring at int’l ports
The central province of Khanh Hoa has raised the warning level for the Zika virus as well as taken more measures to prevent the disease at its international airport and seaports.
Anti-outbreak mobile teams were set up to help with the work at the ports. The province will launch a campaign encouraging locals to eliminate mosquito larva.
The measures were prompted by the information about an Australian visitor who tested positive for Zika after returning from Vietnam.
After returning to Australia, the person showed some symptoms of Zika infection such as fever, rash, headache, muscle pain, conjunctivitis and nausea.
The ministry has sent staff to Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuan to make verification and instruct tightening Zika prevention measures.
According to the World Health Organisation, 59 countries and territories have recorded Zika virus so far. Some foreigners after leaving several Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia were also reported to test positive for Zika.
