New HCM Party official makes plans

HCM City's newly-appointed Party Committee Secretary Dinh La Thang has instructed officials to focus on their work following the long Lunar New Year vacation and not let the public or businesses wait for their work to get done.

At a meeting held on February 15 to review activities related to the Lunar New Year, Thang applauded local officials who had helped the public, especially poor people and revolutionary families, celebrate the festival.

He called on the Publicity and Training Department and related authorities to create favourable conditions for the media to publicise the activities of the city Party Committee and People's Committee.

"The city's leaders would like to hear from and talk and discuss with residents everything related to the city and people's living standards. We will set up a hotline for the public to talk directly with the Party Committee.

"We should listen to people with our hearts and we will hear the truth, suggestions that would bring a breakthrough for the city."

He instructed the police to stop the snatching of valuables on the streets by robbers.

"A resolution by the municipal Party Committee seeks to build a civilised, modern, friendly city that is good for living, but to achieve the goal, robberies must be eliminated and locals and tourists need lawfulness."

He suggested that the police could revive the special unit for combating street robberies, which had proved very effective in the past.

The next important task is to improve the living environment, he said.

"We must educate and guide young people to protect the environment and build a better city."

Speaking about traffic congestion, Thang instructed the Department of Transport, traffic police and related authorities to quickly mitigate the troublesome situation by speeding up infrastructure works, regulate traffic better and reorganise traffic flows.

"Anything that benefits people should be immediately without waiting for instructions. Do what you can do right away."

He called for conferring responsibility on individual officials with regard to administrative reform.

"The People's Committee must delegate responsibility and power to individuals and departments to reduce paper work and improve efficiency in solving problems."

He urged bringing e-government into daily life, which can improve convenience for people and reduce corruption.

Authorities should listen to enterprises, he said.

"We should hear them with our heart and encourage them to talk frankly. We must accompany them and help them overcome challenges because if the business community becomes strong, the city will be strong too."

He said all existing policies should be reviewed to remain abreast of the current situation and assist the business community.

"HCM City must develop and let go of old things to create favourable conditions for the public and enterprises to improve.

"The most important thing for the city is to encourage people to contribute to the development of the city and mobilise the knowledge of the entire society."
