Rescue efforts underway after typhoon Molave dissipates
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and a working group of the front steering committee visited Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province to give assessment of damage caused by typhoon Molave as soon as it dissipated on October 28 afternoon.
Working with representatives from Quang Nam province, Deputy PM underscored the need to search for people who are still missing due to landslides, and urgently provide enough food and water to affected people.
It is imperative to gather to promptly and effectively respond to floods that often develop in a complicated manner after the typhoon, he noted.
Due attention must be given to repairing essential infrastructure facilities serving transport, health care, education, irrigation, and electricity supply for daily activities and production, Dung said, while emphasizing the importance of soon restoring production to help local residents stabilise their lives.
Local authorities have called on local residents to strictly comply with regulations on typhoon prevention to minimise losses caused by the natural disaster, Thanh said.
Deputy PM Dung asked authorities of the central provinces in general in general and Quang Nam province in particular to carry out urgent tasks to minimise losses of life and property caused by typhoon Molave.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, after slamming into areas from central Da Nang city to Phu Yen province on the afternoon of October 28, the typhoon weakened into a tropical depression, delivering torrential rains and to central localities.
Water levels in rivers from Quang Tri to Binh Dinh, Kon Tum and Gia Lai are rising, the centre said, adding that there will be a high risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas, inundation in low-lying areas, riverside and urban areas in localities from Nghe An to Binh Dinh and the Central Highlands.
Meanwhile, landslides occurring continuously in the residential areas of Nam Tra My district left 7 dead and 46 missing.
In order to urgently rescue the victims of the serious landslide in Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung agreed to establish a front command department directly led by Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Tri Thanh.
To cope with the situation, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issued a dispatch regarding the rescue of victims buried in Tra Leng commune. He asked the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue to work hand in hand with local authorities and the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee to focus on all necessary measures to rescue buried people.
According to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, as of 6 a.m October 29, typhoon Molave killed 2 people, left 55 missing and 28 injured. Additionally, as many as 2,527 houses collapsed and more than 88,590 houses had their roofs blown away.
