Two died, seven injured in northern landslide
Two people died and seven others were injured during a landslide in the northern province of Yen Bai’s Tram Tau district on late September 3.
The injured locals were taken to the province’s Nghia Lo General Hospital, some 40km away from the town, for emergency treatment.
The district’s authorities rushed to the scene right after the incident to direct the clean-up of the landslide and visit the affected households.
Financial support of VND5.4 million (US$238) was given to families of each of the deceased and VND2.7 million (US$119) was granted to families of those injured.
On the morning of the same day, one local was struck by lighting and died in the province’s Cam Nhan commune.
Torrential downpour ravaged the province’s west side all day. The province’s authorities issued warnings asking residents to avoid going near the river and streams or seek shelter under large trees during rain and lightning.
Heavy rainfall also hit northern Dien Bien province on September 3-4, causing a major landslide of 4,000cu.m on the stretch of National Route 279 running through the province’s Muong Ang district.
