Vietnam confirms 24 further local transmissions, including 15 in Bac Giang

VOV.VN - A further 24 new local COVID-19 cases detected in four Vietnamese localities were confirmed by the Health Ministry on May 21 morning.

Among the new cases, 15 were reported in Bac Giang, 6 in Dien Bien, 2 in Hai Duong, and 1 in Bac Ninh, most of which are identified as F1 contacts with confirmed COVID-19 patients.

Among 15 cases in Bac Giang hotspot, 13 are linked to Quang Chau Industrial Park and two were found in lockdown areas.

The latest cases have brought the national count of domestic infections to 3,355, including 1,785 detected in 30 provinces and cities since the new wave of the pandemic hit the nation in late April.

Furthermore the number of recoveries in the country now stands at 2,689, while fatalities related to the pandemic reached 40.

With the latest detection, Vietnam has so far recorded 3,355 local infections, and 1,478 imported ones.

As many as 1,021,085 frontline medical workers and members of the community-based anti-COVID-19 groups have to date received COVID-19 vaccine shots, including a total of 28,821 vaccinated with full two doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

On May 20 alone, an additional 4,897 people were vaccinated against  COVID-19 in 9 provinces and cities.

Also May 20 saw the nation register a total of 114 new local transmissions, boosting the national COVID-19 infection tally to 4,833.

Bac Giang and Bac Ninh remain the two localities recording the highest number of local infections in Vietnam, with 683, and 378, respectively.
