Vietnam registers three imported cases, 1,113 in total

The two new Vietnamese cases entered Can Tho Airport from Russia on flight QH9495 on September 26 and tested negative for the novel coronavirus one day later. However, their second test results came back positive on October 12.

At present, both patients are being treated at Bac Lieu provincial General Hospital.

Earlier as many as 20 passengers on this flight were confirmed positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus and they were placed into isolation in Bac Lieu province.

The next latest case is an oil and gas expert of Malaysian nationality. He entered Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City from Malaysia on flight MH766 on October 10 and tested positive for nCoV two days later.

The patient is currently under quarantine to undergo treatment at Ba Ria Hospital.

Of the country’s total cases, 691 people infected with COVID-19 domestically, with 551 infections being recorded since July 25 following the resurgence of the virus in the central city of Da Nang.

Also on October 13, on patient was given the all-clear, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,026, while 35 people have died due to the virus.

Among the patients still under treatment, 10 have since tested negative for COVID-19 at least once, and 8 tested negative multiple times.

At present, more than 13,840 people who came into close contact with confirmed cases, or returned from pandemic-hit regions are under quarantine, including over 140 at hospitals nationwide, with the remainder based at other sites, at home, or at different accommodation facilities.

Indeed Vietnam has gone 41 days in a row without detecting any COVID-19 cases of local transmission.
