Vietnam reports 94 new local COVID-19 cases, with 62 in HCM City

VOV.VN - The nation recorded 94 more domestic COVID-19 cases, including 93 domestic infections and one imported case in the past 12 hours to 6:00 am on June 30, with Ho Chi Minh accounting for the most at 62, said the Ministry of Health.

Of the total, Ho Chi Minh City led with 62, Phu Yen recorded 21, Nghe An (4), Bac Giang (3), and Binh Dinh (3), of which 87 were detected in isolation or lockdown areas.

In HCM City, 51 cases had contact with confirmed patients, 3 are linked to the Son Ky market in Tan Phu district, one is related to the Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park in Cu Chi district, and another to the Revival Ekklesia Mission.

The cases in other provinces are either F1 contacts with confirmed patients or were found in blocked down areas.

June 29 saw the country register a total of 361 new COVID-19 cases of local transmission, with Ho Chi Minh City recording the highest number of infections at 155, followed by the northern province of Bac Giang at 27 and the southern province of Binh Duong at 24.

To date, Vietnam has confirmed 14,717 domestic and 1,790 imported cases. The number of local infections since the fourth wave of COVID-19 outbreaks hit the country more than two months ago amounted to 13,147, of whom 3,990 have recovered.

The total recoveries rose to 6,764 after an additional 254 coronavirus patients were declared clear of the virus, while the fatality count was 78 following the confirmation of two deaths on June 29.

Regarding vaccine delivery, the Health Ministry said one day earlier that Japan is set to donate around one million additional doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam in two different deliveries on July 1 and 8.

This is the second donation from Japan after the first batch of 966,320 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine on June 16.

As many as 806,000 doses of the first batch had been offered to Ho Chi Minh City for its biggest ever vaccination campaign as the southern metropolis is facing the most challenging coronavirus wave with the highest number of infections in recent times.

Nationwide, nearly 4 million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and 182,481 have received two jabs.
