Winners of first national press award on children announced

Winners of the first national press award on children were announced at an ceremony in Hanoi on April 6, honouring journalists and media agencies in all media forms with outstanding contributions in children protection, caring and education in the past one year.

At the ceremony, the organization board presented four first prizes, eight second, eight third and 16 consolidation prizes with total value of VND136 million (nearly US$6,000).

Launched from June 2017 to March 2018 by the Vietnam Association for Protection of Children’s Rights (VAPCR), the Vietnam Journalist Association (VJA) and Save of Children, the contest received more than 250 works of 100 authors in four media forms of print newspaper, online newspaper, radio and television.

The works carry different messages, reflecting the real conditions of children currently, along with outstanding people and activities to help children in difficulties. Many of them denounced violations against children such as sex and labour abuse, and child marriage.

VAPCR Vice President Do Duc Ngo said that media works on children have significant influence on the community, helping increase the public’s voice and engagement in protecting children, as well as authorized agencies’ stronger actions in designing and enforcing children-related policies.
