Hanoi FC signs new contract with Iwamasa Daiki as head coach

VOV.VN - Hanoi FC on January 11 signed a contract with Japanese coach Iwamasa Daiki, who is expected to maintain the team’s sound performance in both national and continental competitions.

Daiki will lead Hanoi FC from the ninth round of the V.League 2023/24 season, becoming the fourth head coach of the capital’s football club this season.

Hanoi FC were earlier coached by Park Choong-kyun of the Republic of Korea, Bozidar Bandovic of Serbia, and Dinh The Nam of Vietnam.

Iwamasa Daiki, 42, started his professional career at Kashima Antlers that won the J1 League for three years in a row between 2007 and 2009. This was the first time a team had ever won the league in three consecutive seasons in the J1 League history. He was also named in the division’s Best XI during this period.

Iwamasa's first managerial appointment was in 2017 as player-coach for Tokyo United FC before completely retiring as a player in 2018. In 2021 he became manager of Jobu University's football team before working as assistant manager of Kashima Antlers for the 2022 season.

He helped the team concede only one goal in four matches and was voted as the best coach of August in the J1 League in 2023.

Hanoi FC were runners-up of the V.League 1 in 2023. They finished the 2022 season a double of the V.League 1 and the National Cup, going on to represent Vietnam at the AFC Champions League.
