Liem and Khoi shine at UAE chess tournament

VOV.VN - Nguyen Anh Khoi and Le Quang Liem, two of Vietnam’s top chess players, continued to be ranked among the leading group after going four matches unbeaten at the ongoing 2019 Sharjah Masters international chess tournament which is underway in the United Arab Emirates.

During the fourth match on March 25, Anh Khoi (Elo rating 2484) recorded an impressive victory over talented rival Ganguly Surya Shekhar of India (Elo rating 2633) after 41 moves.

The 17-year-old has so far earned 3.5 points after four matches, a mere 0.5 points lower than the current leading chess master, Inarkiev Ernesto of Russia (Elo rating 2695).

More importantly, Khoi has increased his ELO points by 11.6 points, which will stand him in good stead to get the Grandmaster title in the future.

Khoi will next face off against Sjugirov Sanan of Russia (Elo rating 2667) in the fifth match.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese grandmaster Le Quang Liem (Elo rating 2715) was held to a draw against Eduardo of Venezuela (Elo rating 2639). He earned a total of 3.5 points from four matches.

In the fifth match, Liem will take on Inarkiev Ernesto of Russia, who is currently ranked in first place at the tournament.
