Local track-and-field athletes begin competition at Asian U20 Championships

VOV.VN - The national track-and-field team arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to compete in the 21st Asian U20 Athletics Championships, with the regional sporting event being held from April 24 to April 27.

The nation's best sprinter Tran Thi Nhi Yen is set to compete in the women's 100m and 200m events.

Yen, 19, hails from Long An province and secured three gold medals and set three records in the women's 100m, 200m, and long jump events at national championships. 

At the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) held in Cambodia back in 2023, she bagged a bronze medal in the 100m and a silver medal in the 200m events. 

Yen also finished sixth at the Asian Championships 2023's 100m. At the 2023 Asian Games she was eighth in the 100m and seventh in the 200m on her debut.

Furthermore, Le Thi Tuyet Mai, who was the national youth champion in the 400m and obtained a gold medal in the relay event at the Southeast Asian Athletics Championship, is also expected to bring home medal at the Asian U20 Championships this year.

Vietnam will also send four other athletes to the competition, including Le Quoc Huy who will compete in the 400m, Vu Thi Tra My in the 400m, Ta Ngoc Tuong in the 100m and 200m, and Pham Xuan Tien in the long jump.
