Que Ngoc Hai nominated as Best Defender at 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup
VOV.VN - Vietnamese captain Que Ngoc Hai has been nominated as the Best Defender at the 2020 AFF Suzuki Cup thanks to a string of outstanding performances put in at the tournament.
According to the organising board of the AFF Cup, Vietnam conceded only two goals across the six matches they played in at the tournament, confirming their longstanding reputation for being a defensive powerhouse.
“With the four options for the three central defensive spots in Vietnam’s backline each having started five matches it’s hard to pick one clear standout but the captain Ngoc Hai gets the slight nod,” says the AFF Cup’s official website.
It notes that, along with being strong on the ball and in his overall positioning and reading of the game, Hai also recorded the highest number of interceptions and blocks in another strong showing at an international tournament.
The six other nominees competing for the title are Theerathon Bunmathan, Kritsada Kaman, and Narubadin Weerawatnodomof Thailand, Asnawi Mangkualam and Pratama Arhan of Indonesia, and Safuwan Baharudin of Singapore.
The Vietnamese defender is currently in third place in the running for the award, just behind Asnawi Mangkualam and Pratama Arhan of Indonesia.
