Swimmers miss out on qualification at 2020 Tokyo Paralympics
VOV.VN - Vietnamese athletes Trinh Thi Bich Nhu and Vo Thanh Tung on August 30 failed to advance to the next stage of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics taking place in Japan.
Competing in the qualifying round of the women’s 50m butterfly S6, Bich Nhu finished 14th out of a total of 15 athletes with a time of 42.60 seconds.
Nhu's teammate Thanh Tung also missed out on qualification after clocking a time of 40.07 seconds in the men’s 50m backstroke S5. He therefore ranked fifth out of a total of eight swimmers.
Tung is scheduled to compete in the men’s 50m freestyle S5 on August 31.
The Paralympic Games is taking place in Tokyo, attracting the participation of 4,403 athletes from around the world competing in 22 different sports.
Vietnam has sent seven athletes to compete in swimming, weightlifting, and track-and-field.
On August 26 Vietnamese weightlifter Le Van Cong won a silver medal in the 49 kg weight category.
The Paralympic Games is due to last until September 5.
