Vietnam drawn in Group D for Futsal Asian Cup 2024 qualifiers

VOV.VN - Vietnam have been placed in Group D in the qualifiers for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Asian Cup 2024, with the event scheduled to be held from October 7 to October 11 in Mongolia.

The group is considered straight forward for the Vietnamese side, particularly as the Republic of Korea (RoK), Nepal, and hosts Mongolia have lower rankings than Vietnam.

The RoK team were runners-up at the 1999 AFC Futsal Championship. Last year saw the Vietnamese team led by coach Giustozzi Diego defeat the RoK 5-1 in the Asian futsal tournament.

In terms of the Asian men’s futsal rankings, Vietnam are now placed in seventh position. Meanwhile, the RoK and Mongolia rank down in 20th and 31st, respectively. In addition, Nepal are outside the top 40 of the regional rankings.

A total of 31 Asian futsal teams have been divided into eight groups, with Bahrain, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan, being the host countries of the qualifiers to the 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.

The participating teams will compete in a round-robin format, with the best eight group winners and seven second-placed teams progressing through to the final round, which will also serve as the qualifying round of the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Previously, Vietnam competed at the Futsal World Cup in 2016 and 2021.
