Vietnamese, Japanese players in table tennis exchange

Vietnamese players began their three-day table tennis exchange with strong athletes from Japan at the Hoa Lư Table Tennis Club in HCM City on March 5.

The exchange is part of a series of events to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan.

The two teams will train and compete until March 7.

The event will see the participation of Vietnam’s national team players, such as Nguyen Anh Tu, Duong Van Nam, Le Tien Dat and Mai Hoang My Trang.

National players from Japan include Hiromitsu Kasahara, Tomoki Hirano, Takuya Jin and Asuka Machi, who was the runner-up in the Japanese national table tennis championship in 2013 and won the title in the men’s doubles of the World Junior Table Tennis Championship in 2011.

“This is a good chance for Vietnamese athletes to hone their skills and gain experience. The Japanese team has been making good progress in recent times.

They have only lost to China in the team World Cup in London last month,” said Tu Nhan Luan, General Secretary of the HCM City Table Tennis Federation.

The event is co-organised by the Consulate General of Japan in HCM City and the municipal Table Tennis Federation.
