Vietnam lychee exports quietly picking up steam

(VOV) - Bac Giang lychee growers have recently secured multi-year contracts with Malaysian businesses for the sale of 520 metric tonnes of fruit.

The information came from a June 24 interview by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper of the Vice Chairman of the Luc Ngan district People’s Committee Le Ba Thanh.

This year, fruit growers in the district have quietly expanded the scope of the export markets into not only the traditional Chinese market, but also those in Australia, the US and Japan.

About 300 Chinese traders are currently in the district negotiating contracts.

So far this season overseas sales have far outpaced last year with growers having shipped nearly 20 tonnes of lychees to Australia and four tonnes to the US.
