ASEAN bolsters cooperation with Argentine city

A workshop to bolster cooperation between ASEAN countries and the port city of Madryn, Chubut province, Argentina was held in Buenos Aires on October 12.

This event is part of activities held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Argentina in 2016, as Vietnam is currently Chair of ASEAN in the South American country.

Speaking at the workshop, Madryn’s Mayor Ricardo Sastre expressed his hope to bolster trade, industry, investment, tourism, sport and culture cooperation with ASEAN partners.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Dinh Thao proposed establishing friendship cities between Madryn and ASEAN cities to boost cultural exchange, while inviting Madryn’s businesses to attend the Vietnam International Trade Fair in 2017.

Indonesian Ambassador Jonny Sinaga said he would promote sport, culture and tourism cooperation with Madryn as a trade delegation of this city will visit Indonesia next year to expand relations.

Meanwhile, Philippine Ambassador Amelita Aquino eyed promoting investment in Madryn and described the city as a tourist attraction.

In September, ASEAN Ambassadors paid a working visit to Madryn.
