Singapore introduces white paper on elected presidency plan
Singapore has released a White Book on elected presidency plan, which affirmed that a president elected through a democratic election remains the most effective solution for Singapore.

The government rejected appointing the Head of State, a recommendation made by the country’s Constitutional Commission, according to the White Book.
It reiterated that an elected president needs a direct mandate to have the moral authority to veto with an elected Government.
The government also accepted a recommendation that safeguards minority representation in the presidency.
Singapore is considering amending its constitution, with most of the changes related to the next presidential election, scheduled for August 2017.
The country’s parliament will discuss the amendments this November.
