More widespread flooding likely to hit Lai Chau province
VOV.VN - The northern mountainous province of Lai Chau is likely to suffer from further flooding while the locality is still in the process of implementing measures to overcome the consequences of the recent floods and search for missing people.
According to the National Meteorological and Hydrological Forecast Centre, there will be widespread heavy rain in the northern region from July 7-9. Provinces of Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang and Yen Bai will see intense rain and thunderstorms. More landslides and flashfloods are likely to hit the northern mountainous provinces, especially those mentioned.
The Chairman of the Lai Chau provincial People’s Committee has urged departments, sectors and localities to step up recovery efforts to tackle the aftermaths of the previous floods and devise cautionary measures to cope with the oncoming heavy rains, floods and landslides.
They must closely follow the movement of floods to promptly inform locals of the conditions and direct preventive work to minimize losses.
Relevant forces will be mobilized to evacuate local people from dangerous areas and to clear landslides to ensure traffic flow on routes, particularly on highways and provincial roads.
